Negawatts

The product of wasted energy is heat, and dollars down the drain.  The IT industry is constantly focused on measuring and reducing heat in the data center.  What if instead of focusing on measuring wasted energy and heat, we were focused on measuring saved energy and revenue?  What if we all started measuring our Negawatts???

What is a Negawatt, you ask?  It’s the theoretical unit of power representing an amount of energy saved; the direct result of energy conservation or increased efficiency.

Here’s what you can do to start creating Negawatts of your own:
·      * Virtualize your servers
·      *  Consider use of the Cloud
·       * Get an Energy Efficiency Audit
·       * Re-vamp your cooling infrastructure with In-row cooling or Economizers
·       * Improve Data Center and Facilities management with DCIM software
·       * Upgrade from 120v to 208v (or single phase to three phase power)

Continue to check in to learn more about each bullet point, and how you can optimize on your efficiency.
